Ruth at Rest

We have all heard the story of Ruth and Boaz, but I wanted to point out some things that struck me as "new gold."  I read about this insight from Joseph Prince’s book, Provision Promises. Ruth’s husband had died and she was living with Naomi her mother-in-law.  Naomi...

A Touch from Jesus

Dear Friend,  I have read the story in Mark 5:21-43 many times, but today Friend, God helped me to see something new. A man named Jairus saw Jesus and fell at his feet saying, “My little daughter is dying.  Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be...

Trusting God with Food Allergies

A few years into my marriage, I discovered I was allergic to two of the oddest things - flaxseed and eggplant. At the time, my husband's Air Force career took us to Germany, and while we loved traveling to as many countries in Europe as possible, I developed an inner...

He Loves You Through it All – Part 2

Five years ago, we moved back to America and my fear of food allergies began to ease up. In the four years that we were in Europe, many changes occurred in the States, but two of these were: the idea to put flax in all kinds of foods and the birth of iPhones! No one...

When There’s No Heartbeat

About three years ago, I lost my son.   I had entered my third trimester of pregnancy with Ian, when I found out at a doctor’s appointment that his little heart was not beating.   This was hard on so many levels, but thankfully, we had a loving...

My Starbucks Name was Lisa – Accepting and Loving Yourself

Dear Friend, My Starbucks name was Lisa.  Why?  Because I got tired of hearing the myriad of imaginative ways people could mess up my name.  The idea to use a fake food name actually started when I was a freshman in college.  My meal plan allowed me to get meals at...

But God, I’m Not Very Good at This . . .

Have you ever felt small?  Smaller than small?  Has God ever laid a dream on your heart and you thought, “Yah right!”  Or, “That sounds too big for me, maybe someone else can do that, but not me.” Or maybe you just didn’t want that responsibility?  Many people in the...

Trust Without Borders

Years ago, I stumbled upon a song that I quickly fell in love with – “Oceans” by Hillsong. I would close my eyes and sing the lyrics day after day until one day, I actually listened to what I was professing. “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders.  Let...

The Gift of Righteousness

Dear Friend, For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. - 1Peter 3:18a NIV While righteousness brings us close to God, looking at our mistakes pushes us...

Walking in Righteousness

Dear Friend, For as he thinks in his heart, so [is] he. (Proverbs 23:7a NKJV) Have you ever asked yourself, “Do I really live like I am righteous in Christ?”  What would that look like?  Have you spent day after day feeling bad, guilty, and condemned about anything...

Clearing Away the Lies

Dear Friend, The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. (John 10:10 ESV) The devil wants to steal, kill, and destroy our relationship with God and others.  He wants to steal our joy, our assurance of...

The Importance of Memorizing Scripture

My older daughter is a mastermind at stretching out her nighttime routine.  We read stories, tell God a few things we are thankful for, and end in a prayer.  I usually say, “Okay, time for bed.  Goodnight, I love you.”   Then she adds, “But...

The Application of Scripture

Have you ever had a time when you lived on a verse . . . just one?  For weeks or months, you clung to the truth in that one verse and milked it for all you could.  When this happens, I believe God wants to deposit a truth in us so deeply that nothing can shake it out...

Are You Tired Yet?

A God who doesn’t grow tired or weary is my kind of God.  I need to know that my life doesn’t go on hold because God takes a nap.  (Psalm 121:4).  His eye is ever on me.  “Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting...

Take Your Thoughts Captive

Have you ever had a thought that sounds reasonable in your mind, but when you say it out loud, it sounds downright crazy and embarrassing?  I used to hear these nagging thoughts in my mind about someone in my life getting hurt or dying in strange...

Push Past Fear

My favorite mug is my white Metropolitan Museum of Art mug that my husband and I bought while on a trip to New York.  My mug is very dependable and considerate. She loves to be filled with coffee at around 1 or 2 pm and is not opposed to holding hot tea at any...

Sit Down & Receive from Your Shepherd

I’m sure you have heard the story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people, but I want to focus on a small detail of this story—a detail that may bring rest to weary souls and minds. When Jesus came ashore and saw the large crowd that had gathered to see Him, He had “compassion...

Let it Go! Let it Go! – Trimming Away the Things that Hinder Us

Isaiah 42:16 “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.” Dear Friend, My...

Whoops! Did I Just Say That? – Teaming with God to Control Our Tongue

We want to do it all don’t we?  We want to be the best spouse, parent, worker and friend.  We want it all at the same time, and dang it, we want it right now!  If we could go through a drive-thru window and pick up a newly improved version of ourselves, we would.  Out...

When You Don’t Feel God, Will You Still Believe He is There?

There are times in life when we have felt God’s presence; but what about those times when you don’t feel Him?  I want to share a bumpy experience I had when I did not “feel" God’s presence… Years ago, I had the opportunity to teach a class at my church....

About Bonnie

Going through life with fear, anxiety, and discouragement can drain you mentally and physically.

I know what it’s like to face:

  • fear, worry & anxiety,
  • depression,
  • battles with physical illness,
  • losing a baby, and
  • living the challenges of a military wife and mother

By strategically diving head-first into my Bible, praying with God, and talking to Him in my desperation, my faith began to build layer by layer. This process of walking with God, focusing on Christ’s finished work at the cross, and learning to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit has massively changed how I think and how I live.
