Are You Tired Yet?

A God who doesn’t grow tired or weary is my kind of God.  I need to know that my life doesn’t go on hold because God takes a nap.  (Psalm 121:4).  His eye is ever on me.  “Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary.” (Isaiah 40:8a)

When we hope in ourselves we will always fall flat—maybe not at first, but eventually we will have that moment where it all crashes down.  We cannot be our own savior or provider.  The very breath in our lungs is a gift from God.  Did you make that breath?  Did you make that air?  If He gives us breath, would He not also give us hope and strength in Him?

“He gives power to the weak, and to [those who have] no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Is 40:29-31)

When our hope is founded on God, our strength will be renewed.  To be renewed, however, is a continual process.  Everyday we need strength to accomplish our daily tasks.  No matter what stage of life we are in, we need God.  We need Him to be in our daily activities: earning a paycheck, taking care of the family, driving, preparing food, cleaning, planning events, feeding babies, changing diapers, working on the car, etc.

Whatever phase of life you are in, put your hope in God and your trust in His goodness to uphold you.  You cannot do it all yourself.  If we didn’t need a Savior, God would not have sent Jesus . . . but He did!  He saves us from having to do this life on our own and to accomplish the things we could not.  He promises to give us strength when we have none.

When we decide to get off the throne of self-sufficiency and give God what is rightfully His, then He truly becomes our high tower and fortress. (Psalms 91)

One day last fall, I was overwhelmed with exhaustion. As I lay helplessly on the floor, I decided to call a neighbor—who I hardly knew—to come over and take me to an urgent care clinic.  I physically had no strength to take care of my kids that day and my husband was in Africa.  Things were not looking good.  But as I lay there on the floor that night, I whispered, “God, I trust you.”  My neighbor came over, and some of my dear friends (who are reading this right now) helped me in that dark time.  God truly provided for me.  Not in my own strength, but in His wisdom, compassion and strength, He sent friends and family to help nurse me back to health.  God provided.  I will say that again—God provided; I did not.  There was no way I could.

Now imagine if you fell on the floor in exhaustion.  When you came to, Jesus was there leaning over you, holding your head and looking into your eyes.  What if you said, “Jesus, I am weak; I don’t think I can do this.”  Then He would answer you, “It’s okay.  That is why I am here.  I will be your strength.  I will hold you up when you are weak. Would you let me?”

Wouldn’t that be a relief?  Or would you try to dust yourself off and say, “No thanks Jesus.  I got this myself.  I will figure something out.”  We all have moments when we experience exhaustion and stress, but when God says He doesn’t grow tired or weary, it is an invitation for us to jump into His boat, where He is the driver.  Then we can truly rest in His goodness and provision for us.  “He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.” (Is 40:28) Now come on, doesn’t that sound much better than figuring life out yourself?

In what part of your life do you need to rely on God?  Give Him Kingship over that area.  Let him hold your head up, and He will pick you up slowly and surely. He is faithful to His children.
