God, I Need Help!

Don’t you wish you could simply turn OFF your daily problems?

Sure, they might be minor problems, but if they weigh on you, then God wants to lighten that load.

Seeing God as our daily Father, a daily Friend, a daily Companion means that we never have to face things alone. We always have an ally.

In Psalm 40: 1-3, David said,

“I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.

What a beautiful note from David’s heart to God’s heart. It is adoration at it’s best.

Now, take a moment to think about your problem. What is bugging you these days? What is weighing on your mind?

Put yourself in Psalm 40 and watch the sequence of events. Imagine yourself in these shoes:

  1. I’m in a pit.
  2. I waited patiently for the Lord.
  3. He turned to me.
  4. He heard my cry.
  5. He lifted me out.
  6. He set my feet on a rock.
  7. He gave me a firm place to stand.
  8. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise.

When we wait on the Lord in troubled times, He will turn to us, He will hear us and lift us out of the pit. He will set our feet upon a rock.  He will give us a firm place to stand.

David emphasizes that he waited and trusted God.

If you are having a hard time trusting God, it is okay.

Our emotions battle our spirit.

The key is to start saying, “Lord, I trust you,” over and over. Let your spirit rise up and quiet down your flesh. God calls for us to have faith the size of a tiny mustard seed.

There have been so many times when I have been shakin’ in my boots, and I am saying, “I trust you. I trust you.”

I think in my heart, “I’m making the decision to trust you even though I feel scared. Please help me.”

You know what? God knows your thoughts anyway and He is looking for you to take that tiny mustard seed faith and even with the tiniest voice say, “I trust you.”

“For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock. And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the LORD.” – Psalm 27:5-6

  1. Trouble comes
  2. He will hide me in his shelter.
  3. He will conceal me under the cover of His tent.
  4. He will lift me high on a rock.
  5. My head shall be lifted up above my enemies.
  6. I will sacrifice with shouts of joy.
  7. I will sing and make music to the Lord.

There is a pattern here. A problem comes and God hears, lifts, sets, hides, conceals, and lifts us up. He does all of that work. The ending is – we sing joyful songs of praise to the Lord.

But mostly when problems come, I think the temptation is for us to lift ourselves out, to hide ourselves, to solve the issue ourselves. But God is not wimpy!

“He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped himself in zeal as a cloak.” (Isaiah 59:17)

Your God is mighty!

He is fierce and fiercely in love with you. I have a mug from Joyce Meyer that says, “Good Morning, This is God!  I will be handling all your problems today.  I will not need your help – so, have a good day!  I love you!”   Every time I read that, I let out a sigh of relief as if I have never seen that mug, and once again let the concept of God’s supremacy and greatness overtake me.

Sometimes in movies we see a scrawny kid facing a bully. Then, the scrawny kid tries to stand up for himself and become fierce. The bully is not afraid of the little kid; he is always afraid of the big brother that comes up to stand behind the kid.

Jesus was so intimidating to the enemy and demons that they cried out, “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”(Matt 8:29)

Demons are scared of Jesus. They understand His supremacy better than we do. You belong to Jesus.  He will never leave you, nor forsake you.  He did not make you, to abandon you.  If you give your life to Him, He is yours forever.

There is a place of safety and rest that we are learning.  It is a place of reliance on a bigger God—an almighty God. He does not change; it is our understanding of Him that expands.

Put your faith up, even in the darkest of times.  Do not lose hope.  You are founded on the rock that is Christ Jesus, you are not left on your own, to solve all your problems.

So face the bully; call upon God for help. He is with you!

Prayer:  God, I invite you into my problem.  I know that you love me and care for me.  I ask you to set my feet up on a rock and surround me with your care and protection.  I choose to trust you in all of the things I am dealing with.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
