This is our 3rd musing in the series. The premise is to stack up solid Biblical truths in your mind that can be recalled when problems arise. These statements from God’s Word will be your weapons against thoughts and lies that are contrary to what God says. You can write them on a post-it note or screenshot and save as a background and commit them to memory. Then in the time of need, the Holy Spirit can bring them back to your remembrance.
We are adding on to our previous musing statements:
1. Victory belongs to the Lord.
2. The fruit of righteousness is peace.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.” (Psalm 91:1-7 ESV)
When I hear the word refuge, I think of the Burg Eltz castle, tucked deep away in a forest in Germany. Burg Eltz has never been destroyed and even withstood a 5-year siege. After 850 years, the Eltz family still resides there. Built strategically and thoughtfully, anyone who lives at Burg Eltz has the upper hand and the advantage.
We have that same advantage living in Christ as our shelter. God’s desire is to be your refuge and fortress — the place where you live and know you are safe.
Our passage in Psalms starts with, “He who dwells….” In Hebrew, the word for dwell (yâshab) means: to sit down, settle and remain.
When we decide to sit down and settle in the secret place of God, in Christ, we remain and stay in the shadow of the Almighty. That is right where we want to abide and live. The Hebrew word for abide means to remain, almost in a stubborn way—to stop and stay permanently. Like a stain that won’t come off your shirt. To put it frankly—We get to sit our butts down and remain permanently in the shelter of God. We have found our home in Him.
This is one of my favorite psalms that I pray over my family daily if possible. There are many visuals and promises of God’s care for us in this passage: shelters, shadows, fortresses, wings, and shields.
Here is a declaration you can speak out loud over yourself. Whatever has been irritating you or causing anxiety, see yourself living permanently in the fortress of God and the issue you face outside those walls. Let God’s love lead and guide you and give you safety on all sides.
Musing #3: I live in the shelter of the Most-High God.
Declaration:
Because I live in Christ, I can sit down, remain, and stay settled under His wings around me. I am safe in His shadow and in His fortress. His faithfulness is a shield around me.
I bless you to know today that,
- You’ve got a place to stay—long term. A good resting place, a place of safety.
- You’ve got a fortress of God protecting you.
- You are covered with His wings.
- His faithfulness is a shield around you.
