Read Your Bible on Your Smartphone

by | Jan 1, 2017 | Devotions, Knowing God

Want to read your Bible more but need a little guidance?

It is so important to keep God’s word pouring into our minds and hearts continually to help combat all the stress and problems that try to swirl around us.  In and through His Word, we find out more about God’s heart and faithfulness to us – this can energize us beyond any problems that come our way.

Normally, I like to hold a book in my hands – complete with a highlighter and a pen because I am a note-taking nerd.  But…because I have a new baby, the reality is that I will normally be holding a baby in one hand, but I can hold my iPhone in the other hand.

I wanted to share this app with you because, not only can you read the Bible from it, they have a plan which allows you to read the Bible in one year.

This is why I love this app:

  1. It is convenient to read on your smartphone, which is probably attached to your hand anyway.
  2. It has many different translations to choose from, and you can change the version back and forth as you please.
  3. You can highlight and add text notes.
  4. Some of the translations have an AUDIO component which allows your phone to READ IT TO YOU.

My Favorite Feature of this App is…

If you open the daily readings and select the audio button, you can follow along as it reads it to you.  🙂 This is so helpful, especially if you struggle to focus.

The audio is important for me because I am the type of person that can read a paragraph in any book and then stop and say – What did I just read?  Was I paying attention?  Most of the time the answer is, “No.”  But when I play the audio track as I am reading it, not only do I read faster and stay on track, but I retain the information much better.

No matter what kind of smartphone you have, you can download it for free from here and follow these step-by-step instructions to start reading today.

How to Start Reading the Bible in One Year:

  1. Download the app from Life.Church (YouVersion) https://www.youversion.com/
  2. Sign up with a user name and password
  3. Select “Plans” at the bottom of the screen.  Scroll down until you see “Through the Bible” – select that and “Start Plan”
  4. If you are on the home screen of the app, select “Plans” and open the day you want to read.  (They have a devotional at the top of each day if you want to go in more depth.  Or you can just check it and continue on to the daily readings.)

Cool Features:

  • Highlighting and Note Taking
  • Many Translations to Choose from (which you can download if you are not always on wifi).  Look for the Audio symbol for the versions that can read to you.

To have the audio play, touch the audio symbol at the top of the screen and this dropdown will show up.
  • Cool Bonus! – They have Bible Reading Plans for kids too!  This one includes cute pictures along the way.

I hope you enjoy this app and that you get the Word of God into your heart.  There are so many times when the Holy Spirit will remind you of something you read – maybe just a phrase, but you can search for it and go back to God’s Word and apply it to your everyday life.
